Transport emissions represent approximately 25% of the EU's total greenhouse gas emissions. Transport emissions are continuing to rise, and action and innovative approaches will be critical if Europe is to achieve a 90% reduction in transport-related greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Similarly, to reach the overall EU objective of a 55% reduction in emissions by 2030, the building sector would need to reduce its own emissions by 60%, as stated in the EU Renovation Wave.
The Urban environment and mobility group
The Urban environment and mobility working group comprises 9 projects from four different Green Deal Calls. The working group projects focus on the green transition at the urban/local level. Specifically, they cover multi-modal connection and transport nodes (ports and airports), buildings and neighbourhoods, and cities.
As part of the working group, the projects will:
• Demonstrate sustainable solutions for maritime and inland ports and airports
• Investigate energy and resource efficiency in the built environment
• Support cities in putting their climate ambitions into action
