SophiA took part in the final event of the Green Deal sister projects, SESA and ENERGICA, titled “Africa in Transition – A Bright Future for Energy and Local Communities.” The project was represented by three partners: the International Institute of Refrigeration, the Institute for Solar Technology SPF at the Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences, and Raach Solar.
The two-day event brought together an inspiring and diverse group of over 120 participants from both Africa and Europe, including policy makers, funding agencies, NGOs, industry stakeholders, and academia. With a dynamic agenda featuring presentations, panel discussions, and ample networking opportunities, the event served as an ideal platform to showcase the key outcomes of the two EU-funded projects.
Discussions highlighted the critical importance of local capacity building for a sustainable energy transition, bridging finance and inclusivity gaps, unlocking climate finance for local energy solutions, the role of supportive policy frameworks, and the need for robust impact tracking of innovations backed by the EU-AU partnership and the Green Deal.
SophiA contributed to the event through the presentation of its project videos and engaged in discussions on potential synergies for post-project maintenance and collaborative capacity-building activities.
The event also marked a valuable opportunity to strengthen partnerships with ECREEE and ECOWAS, and to begin planning the next series of joint events between SophiA and ECREEE.
