The SCENARIOS project is conducting a series of trials at the CASSA site in Spain to test the MiniSAFF technology for removing PFAS contamination from drinking water. Installed on February 4th, the MiniSAFF system is undergoing multiple trials to optimize PFAS removal by adjusting treatment times and pump settings. The next phase, scheduled for late February, will focus on using additives to enhance the removal of short-chain PFAS. The tests are being conducted at a drinking water plant in Parets del Vallès, which processes water from the Volart well and the Ter River, ensuring that the trials do not interfere with the region’s water supply.

The MiniSAFF system, a unit housed in a 20ft container, will conduct four rounds of testing over two months, treating up to 5000L of contaminated water. Key site preparations included terrain levelling, water and electrical connections, and securing storage for treated water. The system was installed with support from Envytech specialists and IDP-CASSA staff, who will oversee trials to determine the reduction capacity of PFAS. Water samples from these tests will be sent to a laboratory for analysis, with results expected soon.
