Description
The ULTFARMS project aims to evaluate and optimise the environmental and economic suitability of low trophic aquaculture (LTA) systems in harsh offshore conditions and low-salinity environments. The solutions developed in the project involve the implementation of low trophic aquaculture farms (e.g. for seaweed and molluscs) within offshore wind developments.
The ULTAFARMS consortium are inviting local and regional authorities to lead a proposal to become an Associated Region (AR) within the project. Three AR projects will be funded under this second call.
Objectives:
Associated Regions are expected to:
- Actively participate in ULTFARMS’ communication, training, and stakeholder engagement activities, including meetings, workshops, and congresses.
- Collaborate with the Blue Mission Banos Project to provide insights into local blue economy activities
- Co-develop offshore multi-use LTA systems that are tailored to local needs, and participating in governance, legal barrier identification, and permit requirements.
- Facilitate technology tests and local activities to increase societal acceptance and policy awareness around LTAs and in building a database for LTA planning.
- Collaborate with all project partners to co-develop a roadmap to transfer project approaches, and host a mandatory event to engage the public and raise awareness.
Eligible applicants:
The lead partner or the sole applicant must be a regional or local authority. Countries that cannot participate due to being part of the ULTFARMS consortium are: Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden.
Proposals must be submitted by a local or regional authority or by a consortium of local and regional authorities. Other entities can be highlighted as potential subcontractors within the scope of work proposed.
Entities who have received Financial Support to Third Parties (FSTP) from ULTFARM’s first round of AR call and from ULTFARMS’ sibling project OLAMUR are considered non-eligible.
Budget:
Up to EUR 100 000 per Associated Region.
Duration:
Successful Associated Region applicants will be contacted between in April 2025, with formalisation of AR contracting on 01 May 2025.
