Description
SHORE open calls aim to enhance the ocean literacy of primary and secondary students, educators and schools. This is achieved through the empowerment of youth to become eco-citizens and agents of change. The SHORE project covers five distinct regional areas: the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, the Rhine River and the Danube river.
The SHORE Open Call #2 is now open and runs until the 20th of November 2024.
SHORE open calls have the following objectives:
- Involve and mobilise students, teachers, and community members in the school and local area to jointly design, develop, and implement projects that enhance and broaden youth's understanding of ocean and water topics for lifelong learning.
- Assist educators in creating and using new and innovative resources for learning and teaching, based on Open Schooling methodologies and Blue Skills Curricula.
- Support schools and their projects in obtaining accreditation in the Network of European Blue Schools, established under the EU4Ocean Coalition.
- Help achieve the Mission Ocean and Waters objectives at an EU-level through tangible solutions for climate neutrality, nature preservation and the restoration of ocean and water health
Objectives:
SHORE Open Call #2 is inviting proposals that address at least one of the following topics and their subtopics: sea-based activities; biodiversity; hazardous substances and marine litter; climate change; and sustainable use of water resources. Eligible activities are listed in the call website.
Schools supported by SHORE have the opportunity to share information about their funded projects via their profile at the project’s digital platform. They also have the opportunity to receive “Ocean Ambassador of the Year” award, which is given to the best school projects.
Eligible applicants:
- Primary or secondary schools (providing up to ISCED level 3, commonly designated as upper secondary education)
- Legally registered and established in the European Union or Horizon Europe associated countries.
- Schools must be located in one out of five targeted regions of the SHORE Open Call 2 – Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Mediterranean Sea, Rhine and Danube River Area (see here the list of eligible countries).
Budget:
Up to EUR 10 000 per project, and up to 45 blue projects will be awarded.
Duration:
The evaluation and selection of proposals will take place from November 2024 through January 2025, with contracts awarded to successful applicants in January 2025. The implementation of school projects is scheduled to occur between February and July 2025.
