Description
SeaClear2.0 is developing an integrated approach to address the full cycle of marine litter to help meet the objectives of the Mission to restore, protect and preserve the health of our oceans, seas and waters by 2030, in the context of the Mediterranean sea basin lighthouse.
SeaClear 2.0 is seeking to collaborate with five associated regions in the four Mission lighthouses to showcase the feasibility, replicability and scale-up of the solutions developed within the project in other areas with ecosystems that can benefit from the achievements and demonstration activities from the project.
Objectives:
Associated Regions are expected to develop a local stakeholders’ network (i.e., local Community of Practice) to exchange experiences and best practices, to support the sustainability and extension of the project ́s objectives beyond its duration. The types of activities or solutions that can receive financial support are:
- Collection of underwater marine litter images to help build a database to train AI (artificial intelligence) in litter detection.
- Development of solutions to handle marine microplastics.
- Marine litter collection solutions at beaches, coastal areas, and rivers.
- Marine litter reuse and upcycling.
- Developing/ implementing mitigation and prevention strategies for marine litter.
Other activities successful beneficiaries are expected to carry out are detailed in the call.
Eligible applicants:
The lead partner or the sole applicant must be a regional or local authority from EU Member States and associated countries to the Horizon Europe Programme.
Countries that cannot participate due to being part of the SeaClear2.0 consortium are: Croatia, Cyprus, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Romania and Spain.
Budget:
Up to EUR 100 000 per Associated Region.
Duration:
Evaluation and selection of applicants will be in June 2024 and completed by 30 June 2024. The project(s) will be implemented between 1 July 2024 to 31 December 2025.
