Description
ProCleanLakes aims to implement restoration and protection solutions in European natural lakes (ENL) via Demonstration Sites and Monitoring Sites. The main goal of the project is to create a science-based remediation and protection action plan involving a diverse group of stakeholders, including the public.
The deadline for the project’s call for associated regions has been extended to 08 April 2025. They are seeking three to five associated regions, offering up to EUR 100 000 in financial support per region to develop roadmaps for remediating and protecting natural lakes.
Objectives:
Associated Regions are expected to have access to a lake that has similar problems with the ProCleanLakes Demonstration Sites, e.g. pollution, decreasing biodiversity, etc..
Selected local and regional authorities will scale up, replicate and apply the solutions and approaches developed in the project Demonstration Sites. Successful applicants commit to carrying out specific activities and will collaborate with ProCleanLakes partners to adopt the outcomes and knowledge developed in the project and integrate them in a roadmap for restoring and protecting ENL. These efforts will contribute to a pan-European Action Plan for the remediation and protection of ENL.
Eligible applicants:
Only local and regional authorities from an associated region can receive financial support to third parties. These local and regional authorities act as the project beneficiary and, in case of cooperation of more entities, as the Lead partner.
ProCleanLakes defines local and regional authorities as governmental or administrative bodies that operate at the local (municipal or city) and regional (state, provincial, or district) levels, and are responsible for managing, regulating, or overseeing water resources, including lakes and lake catchments, within their respective jurisdictions (e.g. local water departments and agencies, municipalities, environmental protection agencies etc.).
Local and regional authorities from the following countries cannot participate due to being part of the ProCleanLakes consortium: Austria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czechia, Greece, Germany, France, Italy, Norway, Romania and Spain.
See the full call document for details on eligibility and the application process.
Budget:
The financial support for third parties will be provided as a lump sum grant. The maximum grant awarded per project is EUR 100 000, and the minimum grant to be requested is EUR 60 000.
Duration:
Funded projects are expected to start between 1 October 2025 and 31 January 2026, with an anticipated end date of 30 September 2027.
