Description of the funding initiative

The Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) finances projects that “improve productivity and/or benefits the environment in the bank’s member countries”. This includes projects for sustainable growth, technological innovation, combating climate change, the development of circular economy and the protection of marine environments.
Loan products include corporate and sovereign loans, loans to municipalities, loan programmes, investments in green bonds, project & structured finance and lending outside the member countries. NIB also finances Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs). Project costings are normally at least EUR 20 million. Smaller projects and investments of small and medium-sized enterprises (SME) can be financed by special loan facilities opened in cooperation with local intermediary banks.

Overview of eligibility requirements for applicants

Eligible applicants are public or private companies, and the public sector (e.g., municipalities).

Outside the membership region, NIB can directly finance projects in countries with signed agreements on financial cooperation: Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Slovenia and Slovakia.
For other countries, NIB can operate through financial intermediary institutions.

Further eligibility criteria depend on the NIB lending business area: https://www.nib.int/what-we-offer/what-we-finance.
