Description

The LIFE-2025-SAP-CLIMA call falls under the Climate Action sub-programme of the broader LIFE Programme. The sub-programme targets actions that contribute to climate change mitigation, climate change adaptation, and climate governance and information. Projects under the Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Priority Area aim to enhance adaptive capacity, strengthen resilience, and reduce vulnerability to the impacts of climate change, in line with the EU Climate Law and the EU Strategy on Adaptation to Climate Change.

Objectives:

Under the LIFE-2025-SAP-CLIMA-CCA call, several areas of intervention align closely with the objectives of Mission Ocean and Waters. In particular:

  • Development and implementation of nature-based solutions for different types of areas (rural, urban, and coastal): Projects should foster the use of nature-based solutions to improve climate resilience, particularly in coastal zones, wetlands, estuaries, and riparian areas. Actions may include restoring degraded habitats, using natural infrastructure to manage climate risks like flooding or sea-level rise, and promoting biodiversity-based adaptation.
  • Water management: Projects should ensure a stable and sustainable supply of freshwater, protect and restore wetlands, and implement measures that reduce water use and maintain water quality. Actions include improving cross-sectoral coordination for water resource management, promoting drought management plans, enhancing soil and landscape water retention, and ensuring climate-resilient drinking water supplies

Eligible applicants:

In order to be eligible, the applicants (beneficiaries and affiliated entities) must:

  • be legal entities (public or private bodies);
  • be established in one of the eligible countries (i.e. EU Member States, including overseas countries and territories, or Non-EU countries from the European Economic Area (EEA) and other countries associated with the LIFE Programme);
  • ensure that the coordinator is established in an eligible country.

Full details are in the call document. Beneficiaries and affiliated entities must register in the Participant Register.

Budget:

The total indicative budget for the LIFE-2025-SAP-CLIMA-CCA call is EUR 28 million, with an indicative range of project budgets of EUR 1 to 5 million.  Twelve projects are estimated to be funded under this call.

Duration:

Projects funded under this call are expected to have a duration of between 36 and 84 months, with extensions possible if duly justified and formally agreed through an amendment.
