Description of the funding initiative
Interreg Euro-MED supports projects, initiatives and policies related to climate change and the environment in line with the priorities and specific objectives set out by the European Commission for the Cohesion policy. Four missions have been identified: innovative sustainable economy, natural heritage, green living areas and sustainable tourism. There are four Priorities for the 2021-2027 Programme, with specific objectives under each priority.
Priority 1 – A Smarter Mediterranean
- Developing and enhancing research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies
Priority 2 – A Greener Mediterranean
- Promoting climate change adaptation and disaster risk prevention, resilience, taking into account eco-system-based approaches
- Promoting the transition to a circular and resource efficient economy
- Enhancing protection and conservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure including in urban areas and reducing all forms of pollution
Priority 3 – Mediterranean Governance
- Actions to support better cooperation governance

Public administration bodies, universities, private and civil society organisations can apply.
Eligible areas for specific eligible countries are:
- France: Corse, Occitanie, Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur, Rhône-Alpes
- Italy: Abruzzo, Apulia, Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lazio, Liguria, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmonte, Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Umbria, Valle D’Aoste, Veneto
- Portugal: Algarve, Alentejo, Lisbon
- Spain: Andalusia, Aragon, Balearic islands, Castilla-la-Mancha, Catalonia, Extremadura, Comunidad de Madrid, Murcia, Valencia, Ceuta and Melilla
Rules on co-financing
The co-financing rate for partners not concerned by state aid is 85%. The co-financing rate for economic operators and structures concerned by state aid is 85% or 50%.
