Description of the funding initiative
Horizon Europe is the EU's key funding programme for research and innovation, with a total budget of €95.51 billion (in 2021 prices, over the period 2021-2027) including contributions from other funds such as NextGenerationEU. Its objectives are to promote excellence in research, and to provide essential support to researchers and innovators to drive the systemic changes required to ensure a healthy, green and resilient EU. It directly funds research and innovation projects for the Missions, including the Mission Ocean and Waters. Horizon Europe also funds initiatives that may support Mission projects, such as the European Innovation Council (see the separate entry for this initiative).
