Exhibiting innovation: Mission Ocean projects at the 3rd Annual Mission Forum

Ocean Weeks

Discover the latest solutions transforming ocean and water conservation, pollution prevention, and the transition to a carbon-neutral and circular blue economy.

The EU Mission Restore Our Ocean and Waters Forum 2025 is taking place today, 4 March, in Brussels, offering a firsthand look at pioneering solutions designed to protect and restore our oceans and waters by 2030. In the exhibition area, 17 Mission-funded projects across 10 booths are showcasing their concrete and tangible results and inviting attendees to engage through dynamic and interactive displays, demonstrating how the Mission is achieving its goals.

How R&I is shaping the path toward the Mission’s goals

One focus area of the Forum’s exhibition is the protection and restoration of marine and freshwater environments, in alignment with the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 and the Mission’s objectives. Exhibits from the projects BlueMissionAACLIMAREST and A-AAGORA are presenting nature-based approaches for ecosystem restoration in the Atlantic and Arctic basins. Visitors can participate in interactive activities, such as designing Marine Protected Area corridors through a game hosted by Blue ConnectBioProtect, Blue4All and PHAROS.

Pollution prevention is also a central theme of the exhibition, with demonstrations of cutting-edge technologies, such as drones and artificial intelligence (AI) for litter monitoring, presented through live interactive demos by the INSPIRE project. The Plastic Pirates project highlights its educational programme that engages students across Europe by involving them in plastic waste collection, supporting the Water Framework Directive’s goals for pollution reduction.

In addition, the exhibition is showcasing a range of innovations that support a carbon-neutral and circular blue economy, highlighting the Mission’s contribution to the EU’s Sustainable Blue Economy Strategy. Exhibits presented by BlueMissionBanos cover diverse areas, from algae-based bioproducts to educational initiatives aimed at fostering blue bio entrepreneurship. Info-educational activities, along with various innovations, are also presented by BlueMissionMed and EcoDaLLi, showcasing the impactful work being undertaken in these vibrant, basin-based communities.

Alongside the project showcases, the exhibition highlights the European Digital Twin Ocean, presented by EDITO-Infra, focusing on its applications in marine plastic monitoring, coastal risk management and aquaculture implementation. It also features initiatives aimed at strengthening ocean literacy, presented by the projects SHOREBluelightsProbleu and PartArt4OW, featuring blue education programmes that actively engage European communities and foster a deeper connection with the ocean.
