Description
This funding is for projects that demonstrate technologies that minimise the harmful impacts from underwater noise from waterborne transport.
Objectives:
Project outputs and results are expected to contribute to the following expected outcomes:
- Demonstrate reduction in underwater radiated noise (URN) via large-scale demonstrators or retrofitted ships with URN reduction modifications, and assessed using measurable Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Showcase the effectiveness, safety, and cost-efficiency of noise mitigation devices and management measures, assessed through verifiable KPIs.
- Develop standards specifying noise levels emitted by equipment suppliers and shipyards, building upon current industry state-of-the-art.
- Raise awareness among European ship owners regarding the environmental impact of underwater noise and possibilities for noise reduction to protect marine environments.
- Provide regulators with evidence on waterborne transport underwater noise, considering operational conditions and environmental impact for potential future regulations.
