Description of the funding initiative
The Cohesion Fund is available for EU Member States with a gross national per capita income below 90% of the EU-27 average, with the purpose of strengthening the economic, social and territorial cohesion of the EU. It supports investments in infrastructure, focused on environment and trans-European transport networks that support the EU's strategies. The available budget allocated for the 2021-2027 period is EUR 393 billion (2021 prices).
For the 2021-2027 period, the funding is available for Bulgaria, Czechia, Estonia, Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.
The fund is administered via Member State programmes. Relevance for the Mission will depend on the priorities within each programme. Some Member States programmes combine Cohesion Fund and ERDF resources (see the separate entry for ERDF).
