Minimisation of environmental, and optimisation of socio-economic impacts in the deployment, operation and decommissioning of offshore wind farms (HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-02-08)

This funding is for projects that address one of the following Actions:

• Action 1: development of design tools for the planning of offshore floating and fixed-bottom wind farms with the focus to minimize the overall life-cycle environmental impacts, reducing carbon footprint of the offshore wind plants across the life cycle, from construction to end of life and reduce the environmental impact in each consecutive step.
• Action 2: development of innovative and cost-effective solutions for all phases of the life cycle of offshore wind farms but especially for the installation, construction and decommissioning phase with the aim to reduce the environmental impact as much as possible.

Objectives: 

Depending on the Action relevant to the project, results are expected to contribute to the following outcomes:

1. Enhanced sustainability by addressing economic, social and environmental aspects (air pollution, waste management, health and safety, job opportunities, wildlife concerns, etc.) of offshore wind farms.
2. Enhanced overall sustainability of large-scale production of offshore wind farms based on mainstreamed Life Cycle Analysis addressing social, economic and environmental aspects, as well as improved circularity of offshore wind turbines.
3. Improved understanding on the negative and positive impacts of offshore wind farms throughout their lifetime.
4. Innovative and cost-effective solutions for the construction and decommissioning of offshore wind farms aiming also the minimisation of the potential impacts to biodiversity and protected species and habitats.

Action 1 project outcomes to contribute to at least a), b), and c); and Action 2 project outcomes to contribute to at least two between a), b) and d).

Budget:

A total of EUR 10.000.000 is allocated to the call HORIZON-CL5-2024-D3-02-08 - HORIZON-RIA HORIZON Research and Innovation Actions. The contribution to the projects is approximately EUR 5.000.000 (2 grants foreseen).
