Description of the funding initiative
The 2021-2027 Interreg MAC Programme aims to enhance cooperation between three European outermost regions (the Azores, Madeira and the Canary Islands) belonging to Portugal and Spain, and seven third countries - Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Mauritania, Senegal and São Tomé and Príncipe - five of which are part of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). This cooperation is based on shared interests and values, with a view to achieving common objectives in terms of innovation and competitiveness, ecological transition, the fight against climate change, mobility and governance. There are four priority areas with objectives:
- Smart Mac
- Develop and improve research and innovation capacities and the implementation of advanced technologies
- Reinforce sustainable growth, competitiveness and employment creation in SMEs, also through investments that generate income.
- Green Mac
- Promoting energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse gas emissions
- Promotion of renewable energies in accordance with Directive (EU) 2018/2001, with a focus on the sustainability criteria detailed there
- Promoting climate change adaptation, disaster risk prevention and resilience, considering ecosystem-based approaches
- Promoting the transition to a circular and resource-efficient economy
- Promotion of the protection and conservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructure, including in urban areas, and the reduction of all forms of pollution.

- Mobility and migration management
- Mac Governance
- Improved institutional capacity, promotion of interpersonal actions, support for better governance of cooperation
Overview of eligibility requirements for applicants
At least one beneficiary from one of the three European regions of the programme (Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands) and one participant from the seven African partner countries of the programme (Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Gambia, Ghana, Mauritania, Sao Tome and Principe and Senegal).
ERDF beneficiary partners must have a headquarters, office or permanent establishment in one of the three European regions of the Programme. Private companies, partners from African third countries and associated entities are not eligible to be a Lead Partner.

Procedures to submit proposal
Applications must be submitted electronically through the Programme's management tool, e-MAC, by accessing the Programme's website: www.interregmac.org .
The application shall be registered by the Lead Partner and shall be completed in only one of the languages foreseen (Spanish or Portuguese).
