Description of the funding initiative

Support project ideas that will make central Europe smarter, greener, better connected, and more integrated. Funded projects develop and pilot solutions, build institutional capacities and facilitate knowledge transfer. There are four priorities, and Mission Ocean and Waters objectives are linked with the second priority of a greener central Europe.

  1. Cooperating for a smarter central Europe
  2. Cooperating for a greener central Europe
  • Supporting the energy transition to a climate-neutral central Europe
  • Increasing the resilience to climate change risks in central Europe
  • Taking circular economy forward in central Europe
  • Safeguarding the environment in central Europe
  1. Cooperating for a more connected central Europe
  2. Improving governance for cooperation in central Europe

Overview of eligibility requirements for applicants

Interested parties can use the self-assessment tool to determine eligibility.

Organisations acting under international law cannot be lead partners. They are, however, eligible as project partners when they meet the following two conditions: Participation in the project through an operative seat located in one of the central European regions; and explicit acceptance of all requirements deriving from the EU Treaty and the regulations applicable in the framework of the programme.

Rules on co-financing

The Interreg CE Programme follows the principle of reimbursement of costs incurred and paid by the beneficiaries. This means that each beneficiary must fully pre-finance its project expenditure. Beneficiaries should bear in mind that the absence of advance payments from the programme, and the time gap between incurring the expenditure and having it reimbursed, may lead to cashflow issues. The MA/JS are strongly committed to reducing the time needed for reimbursement as much as possible.

Procedures to submit proposal

Selection of projects through calls for proposals. The focus and framework is defined in so-called “Terms of Reference” (ToR), and these are published with the official launch of a call. Initial information will be published some time before that. The timeline of calls for proposals can be found at https://www.interreg-central.eu/calls-for-proposals/

The Interreg Central Europe hosts an applicant community to get in touch with other organisations and facilitate bilateral exchanges https://community.interreg-central.eu/
