Description of the funding initiative
The Federal Foundation for the Environment (Deutsche Bundeschtiftung Umwelt (DBU)) is a German federal authority promoting innovative exemplary projects for environmental protection with a special focus on small and medium-sized enterprises. DBU’s main funding programmes are:
- Environmental relief and innovation – to promote solution-oriented projects to protect the environment in the relevant areas of environmental technology, research and communication as well as the protection of nature and cultural assets. The focus is particularly on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
- Green start-up – to support start-ups that develop environmentally friendly, innovative and economically viable business models. The funding essentially provides financial and non-material support for a founding team to enable them to work full-time on their start-up.
