Description

This report addresses key challenges and gaps in improving oil spill recovery (OSR) infrastructure and preparedness in the NPA (Northern Periphery and Arctic) region. It emphasises environmental factors influencing OSR tool selection, analyses Arctic traffic trends, identifies gaps in guidebooks and viability analyses, and discusses lessons learned from ice trials and the GRACE project. Technical challenges in OSR modes (mechanical recovery, dispersants, and in-situ burning) in Arctic waters are outlined. The report also delves into factors affecting oil spill preparedness, including Search and Rescue (SAR), infrastructure, and communication limitations.
