Description of the funding initiative
The ERDF provides funding to public and private bodies in all EU regions to reduce economic, social and territorial disparities through dedicated national or regional programmes. It aims to enable investments in a smarter, greener, more connected and more social Europe that is closer to its citizens. The fund has a budget of €226.05 billion (in 2021 prices, over the period 2021-2027).
Over the 2021-2027 period, the fund will enable investments to achieve five objectives that will benefit Europe and its regions by becoming: 'more competitive and smarter; greener; more connected; more social; and closer to its citizens'. ERDF is administered by MS programmes.
The fund is administered via Member State programmes (as well Interreg programmes that bring together regions across borders). Relevance for the Mission will depend on the priorities within each programme.
