Description of the funding initiative

This programme covers the economic sectors of aquaculture, processing and wholesale trade of fishing and aquaculture products, as well as transversal aspects such as biodiversity and aquatic ecosystems in Wallonia.

Throughout the funding period 2021-2027, the Walloon government is committed to improving sustainability and environmental protection in the fisheries and aquaculture sector through several strategic priorities. Priority 1 focuses on promoting sustainable fisheries by protecting biodiversity and restoring aquatic ecosystems, supporting projects that benefit both biodiversity and the aquatic environment. Priority 2.1 shifts the focus to supporting sustainable aquaculture, which includes the processing and trade of fisheries and aquaculture products. This covers a wide range of initiatives such as projects of collective interest in aquaculture, individual aid for scientific monitoring, training, studies, advice, expertise and investment in aquaculture. It also covers compensation for exceptional losses and costs and individual aid for conversion to and maintenance of organic aquaculture production. Under Priority 2.2, the Government aims to support the processing and trade of fisheries and aquaculture products by providing compensation for losses and additional costs incurred in exceptional circumstances. This priority also includes individual aid for investments in the processing and marketing of fisheries and aquaculture products and promotes products derived from sustainable aquaculture and fisheries practices.
