Description of the funding initiative
The Programme aims to contribute to the environmentally, competitively and socially sustainable development of the fishing and aquaculture industries and at the same time support the sustainable management of the oceans.
The program has the following four priorities and expected impacts:
- Green transition: Reducing the climate and environmental impact of the fisheries and aquaculture industries, as well as strengthening competitiveness through the development of commercial solutions with potential for market introduction and deployment.
- Sustainable fisheries management based on biological advice: Strengthened knowledge bases on fish stocks and the marine environment, as well as improved aquatic ecosystems and biodiversity. Contribution to the implementation of the landing obligation through the continued development of selective gear. Increased degree of digitalisation of fisheries control.
- Development of coastal fishing and on land in coastal areas: Improved economic conditions and competitiveness of coastal fisheries and associated communities. Improving logistics, catch management and infrastructure.
- Sales promotion: Strengthening the competitiveness of the fisheries and aquaculture industries, including by promoting the marketing of new fisheries resources and fisheries with a sustainable profile. Promoting the marketing of sustainable fisheries products.
Overview of eligibility requirements for applicants
Eligibility is according to the specific objectives of the fund, but includes national, regional and local government bodies, fishing, aquaculture, processing and marketing enterprises and organisations, research and technology developers, academic institutions (including those that provide training), and NGOs. Rules on co-financing
Co-financing rate of 70%. Please consult the EMFAF Programme for details.
