Digital Twins of the Ocean & Early Career Ocean Professionals

Conference

The Digital Twins of the Ocean & Early Career Ocean Professionals (DTO4ECOPS) workshop, set to take place ahead of the Ocean Decade Conference in Barcelona, aims to explore the intersection of ocean data networks and cloud technologies in shaping the future of ocean science and management. The session promises to be a pivotal discussion on leveraging existing efforts to deliver the ocean we desire for both present and future generations.

Practical information

  • 9 April 2024, 9:30 to 11:30 AM CET
  • World Trade Centre Barcelona - South Building (S2, S3, S4)
  • Register here

One of the central themes of the workshop is the concept of ocean digital twinning - a cutting-edge approach that involves creating virtual replicas of oceanic systems using real-time data and advanced modelling techniques. By harnessing the power of cloud technologies, these digital twins offer unprecedented insights into the dynamics of our oceans, enabling scientists and policymakers to make informed decisions for their sustainable management.

Participants will delve into existing initiatives in ocean data sharing and digital twinning, including projects such as EDITO-Infra, ILIAD, Ocean InfoHub and SPINCAM. These initiatives represent collaborative efforts across regions, focusing on enhancing data accessibility, information management and capacity building within the ocean science community.

Crucially, the workshop seeks to amplify the voices of Early Career Ocean Professionals (ECOPs) in this field. By providing a platform for ECOPs to share their perspectives, the session aims to identify potential barriers hindering their engagement with emerging technologies and opportunities in ocean science. Through interactive discussions, participants will explore the practical implications of these advancements for ECOPs and chart a course towards inclusive and impactful involvement in the Ocean Decade goals.
