Description of the funding initiative
The objective of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme is to accelerate investments in Europe's transport, energy and digital infrastructure networks to support the European Green Deal and the EU's Digital transformation. This has a budget of EUR 20.73 billion (2021 prices) for the period from 2021 to 2027. The CEF offers financial support to projects through grants, guarantees and project bonds.
The CEF is divided into three sectors: Transport, Digital, and Energy. Each has its own budget.
CEF Transport aims at supporting investments in building new transport infrastructure in Europe or rehabilitating and upgrading the existing one. It also supports innovation in the transport system to improve the use of infrastructure, reduce the environmental impact of transport, enhance energy efficiency and increase safety. It thus may be relevant for projects to reduce carbon emissions in maritime transport.
CEF Digital could be relevant for Mission projects supporting the development of a digital twin of the ocean.
CEF Energy could be relevant for Mission projects supporting the development of ocean-based renewable energy.
