Fellowships get researchers and technology moving

An EU-funded programme is bringing researchers from across the world to universities and SMEs in Belgium. The aim is to encourage technology transfer, stimulate innovation and develop careers in a range of sectors key to economic growth - including aeronautics and space, agro-food, biotechnology and chemicals.

Designing infrastructure for radio astronomy on an epic scale

The preparations for the Square Kilometre Array are advancing: construction is due to begin in 2020. An EU-funded project team working on infrastructure was one of several groups involved in the detailed design of this instrument, which will be co-located on two continents. In Australia, 133 000 antennas are to be deployed - and that's just for starters.

Connecting the dots for European materials researchers

The EU-funded ESTEEM2 project is connecting European researchers in Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) for materials science with state-of-the-art TEM instrumentation, methodology and tools. The result: new insight into the complex materials in everything from optics and electronics to lightweight parts in aircraft.

Infrared camera is a world-beater

A French SME has created the world's fastest and most sensitive infrared scientific camera with support from EU funding. Initially developed for astronomy, the technology is expected to find numerous applications in research and industry.
