Description
The Mission Ocean and Waters funded SEACURE project aims to scale up and replicate innovations that prevent and reduce nutrient pollution in the Mediterranean Sea, aligning with existing Mediterranean Lighthouse projects and soil health living labs. It focuses on six regions in Spain, Italy, and Greece to implement strategies that reduce soil pollution, cut fertilizer use and nutrient loss, and address nutrient pollution in freshwater and marine ecosystems.
The project is launching an open call for Associated Regions on 01 December 2025, and closing on 28 February 2026.
Objectives:
This upcoming call for Associated Regions aims to fund seven projects that advance strategies for preventing and addressing nutrient pollution. The call targets regions affected by eutrophication, helping them manage nitrogen and phosphorus cycles through systemic innovations and technical support from the SEACURE consortium. Activities funded include capacity building for regional actors, social awareness and/or citizen science programmes, design of regional upscaling planes, and purchase of small equipment.
Eligible applicants:
Applications from individual organisations or consortia representing public authorities involved in local and regional land and/or wastewater management, including the following will be accepted. This includes municipal governments, regional authorities, provincial councils, counties, delegations or similar public bodies, metropolitan authorities or inter-municipal cooperation bodies, environmental agencies, water and sewerage authorities and other public authorities or agencies with proven responsibilities affecting nutrient management.
Applicants from the following project consortium countries are not eligible: Spain, Italy, Greece, Austria, and Belgium.
Budget:
A total of seven projects will be funded, with a budget of up to EUR 100 000 per project.
Duration:
Funded projects will be implemented over a period of 18 months.
