Description

The LIFE Circular Economy and Zero Pollution sub-programme specifically supports the transition toward a sustainable, circular, toxic-free, energy-efficient, and climate-resilient economy, aiming to protect, restore, and improve the quality of the environment in line with the European Green Deal. It targets three main priority areas: circular economy and waste management, zero pollution and sustainable management of natural resources (covering air, water, soil, chemicals, noise, and industrial emissions), and environmental governance.

Objectives:

Project proposals under the LIFE-2025-SAP-ENV-ENVIRONMENT call are expected to focus on one or more of the following areas, with the first two being particularly relevant to the objectives of the Mission Ocean and Waters:

  • Circular Economy and Waste: Proposals should promote innovative solutions for resource recovery, recycling, and circular product design, targeting waste streams such as electronics, plastics, textiles, and bio-waste. Actions may include improving separate collection systems, advancing circular business models, and increasing the use of secondary raw materials.
  • Zero Pollution and Sustainable Management of Natural Resources: Proposals should address the prevention and reduction of pollution across air, water, and soil, focusing on solutions that prevent emissions at source, enhance wastewater treatment, improve air quality, and restore soil and water ecosystems. Projects may also target sustainable land and water management practices.
  • A New European Bauhaus: Proposals should deliver integrated solutions that combine environmental sustainability with social inclusion and aesthetic value in buildings and urban spaces. Activities may include circular construction practices, urban regeneration, biodiversity-friendly design, and reducing the environmental footprint of the built environment.

Eligible applicants:

In order to be eligible, the applicants (beneficiaries and affiliated entities) must:

  • be legal entities (public or private bodies);
  • be established in one of the eligible countries (i.e. EU Member States, including overseas countries and territories, or Non-EU countries from the European Economic Area (EEA) and other countries associated with the LIFE Programme);
  • ensure that the coordinator is established in an eligible country.

Full details are in the call document. Beneficiaries and affiliated entities must register in the Participant Register.

Budget:

The total indicative budget for the LIFE-2025-SAP-ENV-ENVIRONMENT call is EUR 77 million, with an indicative range of project budgets of EUR 2 to 10 million.  30 projects are estimated to be funded under this call.

Duration:

Projects funded under this call are expected to have a duration of between 36 and 84 months, with extensions possible if duly justified and formally agreed through an amendment.
