Description
The iNNO SED project works to advance sediment assessment methodologies and demonstrate management solutions for river systems facing erosion, sedimentation, or pollution challenges. While centred on the Danube River Basin, its solutions are designed to be adaptable and replicable in other river basins, contributing to the objectives of the EU Mission Ocean and Waters.
The project has launched an open call for Associated Regions, inviting at least five local or regional authorities to join as partners who will contribute to testing, scaling, and replicating sediment management solutions.
Objectives:
The call seeks to strengthen regional capacity for sustainable sediment management by linking new regions with the expertise and tools developed in iNNO SED. Its objectives include transferring knowledge, developing roadmaps of sustainable measures, and building local capacity to align regional sediment strategies with broader European goals.
Associated Regions will engage in joint consultations with iNNO SED experts, contribute to the preparation of replication roadmaps, and participate in training, webinars, and project meetings. They are expected to undertake activities such as improving sediment monitoring, raising awareness of sediment flow alterations, exploring nature-based solutions, and integrating sediment issues into local or national policies. In return, they will receive financial support, technical assistance, access to project tools such as a relocatable digital twin, and opportunities to visit demonstration sites.
Eligible applicants:
The lead partner or sole applicant must be a local or regional authority from an EU Member State or a Horizon Europe associated country. Authorities from countries already part of the iNNO SED consortium — Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Moldova, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Ukraine — are not eligible to apply. Each applicant may submit only one proposal, and applications must be completed in English using the official submission template.
Budget:
Each Associated Region may receive up to EUR 100 000 in financial support, provided as a grant.
Duration:
The call is open from 15 September to 17 November 2025. Eligibility checks will take place between 18 November and 31 December 2025, with evaluation in January 2026. Final decisions will be made by 28 February 2026, and contracts with successful applicants will be prepared from March 2026.
