Description of the funding initiative
The Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (Bundesamt für Naturschutz (BfN)) is a German federal authority carrying out technical, scientific and administrative tasks in nature conservation and landscape management. They implement nature conservation law, provide technical and scientific advice for policy, and promote and supervise nature conservation and research projects.
Via funding provided by the Federal Ministry of the Environment, the BfN supports nature conservation and landscape management projects carried out by initiatives, associations, scientific institutions and other actors. These programmes are:
- Nature Climate Protection Action Programme – to improve the general condition of ecosystems and strengthen their resilience and performance against climate resilience.
- National Species Conservation Programme – to protect species and their habitats and improve their conservation status.
- Federal Biodiversity Programme – to protect and preserve biodiversity in Germany.
- “Blue Belt Germany” Federal Programme – to make Germany’s waterways more natural.
- Testing and development projects – to realise promising nature conservation ideas and implement important research results in nature conservation.
- Large-scale Nature Conservation projects – to support projects in areas that are exceptionally valuable nationally and internationally in nature conservation terms.
- Association and organisations support – to support for environmental and nature conservation associations via financial donations.
