Description

The Mission Ocean and Waters funded EUROLakes project addresses water scarcity, pollution, and biodiversity loss in lakes through advanced modelling techniques that assess climate change impacts and human activities, identify key stressors, and design targeted protection and restoration measures.

The project’s call for Associated Regions is open until 15 January 2025 (17:00 CET).

Objectives:

Local and regional authorities from selected regions will co-develop and implement tailored plans to restore natural lakes using the 4 Returns Framework methodology, with direct mentorship and support from EuroLakes experts. Three projects will be selected to receive up to EUR 75 000 to support the restoration of their natural lake ecosystems using nature-based solutions, adapted from methodologies tested at EuroLakes demonstration sites.

Eligible applicants:

Local and regional authorities (including municipalities, conservation agencies, regional governments) from EU Member States and Horizon Europe Associated Countries are invited to apply as a single entity or as part of a local partnership. A local/regional authority needs to be the Lead Applicant. Applicants from the following EUROLakes project consortium countries are not eligible: Austria, Bulgaria, Germany, Italy, Romania, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.

Full details are provided in the guideline for applicants.

Budget:

A total of three projects will be funded, with a budget of up to EUR 75 000 per project.

Duration:

Funded projects will be implemented over a period of 20 months, with a flexible start date between 01 June to 20 September 2026. All projects must end by 31 May 2028.
