Description
The DANSER project works to achieve sustainable sediment balance and enhanced water quality throughout the Danube River Basin by combining scientific research, stakeholder engagement, and practical restoration measures to develop evidence-based management tools.
The project has opened their first call for Associated Regions, inviting at least five third parties to become strategic partners who will contribute to the scalability and replication of project-developed solutions.
Objectives:
The call seeks to strengthen regional capacity for sustainable sediment and water management by linking new regions with the expertise, methods, and lessons emerging from DANSER. Its objectives include fostering knowledge transfer, supporting the creation of tailored roadmaps, and enabling regions to align local strategies with broader European goals for ecosystem restoration.
Successful Associated Regions will engage actively in joint learning, contribute to the Community of Practice, and provide input that helps refine and validate project outcomes. They are expected to undertake activities such as sediment monitoring, awareness-raising, and planning for future restoration efforts, while also identifying funding and business models for long-term implementation. In return, they will receive financial and technical support and access to a shared knowledge base that empowers them to advance local restoration actions with greater impact.
Eligible applicants:
The lead partner or sole applicant must be a local or regional authority from an EU Member State or a Horizon Europe associated country. Authorities based in countries that are already part of the DANSER consortium — Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Ireland, Portugal, Romania, and Ukraine — are not eligible to apply. At least five Associated Regions will be selected under this call, with a minimum of one from each of the four Mission Ocean and Waters basins and at least two from the Danube–Black Sea. If no eligible applications are received from a basin, the highest-ranked proposals from other basins will be considered.
The involvement of Associated Regions that have not yet participated in Mission projects will be favoured in case of a tie during the evaluation stage.
Budget:
Each Associated Region will be awarded up to EUR 65 000. The exact amount awarded will depend on the proposal score.
Duration:
Proposal evaluation and selection will begin once the call closes on 01 November 2025 and run until 31 December 2025. Expected Associated Regions project implementation will start on 01 March 2026 and continue until 30 September 2028, which also marks the official end of the DANSER project.
