
Ms. Rosario Perona, Deputy Director General for Evaluation and Research Promotion, is a Ph.D. in Pharmacy from the Complutense University of Madrid and until now Research Professor at the CSIC, where she has performed her research role since 1993.
She has been President of ASEICA and a member of the Board of Directors of the European Association for Cancer Research. Throughout her career, she has participated as an assistant and panelist in the ANEP for FIS projects, member of the Technical Committee of the AECC and participated as an evaluator for different regional research agencies, Scientific Associations and Pharmaceutical Companies. Her main area of expertise is research in Oncology and rare diseases associated with defects in telomerase activity.
In her career as a researcher she has published more than 100 articles in international journals, she has been principal investigator in more than 30 competitive national projects and author of 7 patents, most of them licensed. She has directed 18 doctoral theses in the area of Oncology and rare diseases and has registered an orphan drug with the EMA for the treatment of a rare disease, dyskeratosis congenita.
