
Natalia Vera is a Spanish environmental practitioner with a 15-year track-record working with subnational governments at EU and global levels.
Law graduated she specialized in International Public Law and EU Institutions. She holds a Master’s degree in European Communities and EU, from the Royal Institute of European Studies with a thesis on “Environmental Taxation in the Common Market”; as well as a Master’s degree in Land and Environment Planning from the Department of Geography, Faculty of Arts, University of Zaragoza (Spain) with a thesis on “A Strategic Planning for ENCORE network”.
She worked as International Affairs Coordinator for the Regional Minister of Environment of Aragon (2006-2013). During that period she acted first as co-chair of the Steering Group of ENCORE (Environmental Conference of the Regions of Europe) and eventually, she became responsible for its Permanent Secretariat. She also represented Aragon region in nrg4SD (Network of Regional Governments for Sustainable Development), currently known as Regions4.
She was first Coordinator, and then Secretary General of Regions4 in the period 2013-2019, where she followed closely and represented regional governments in the UN agendas on Climate (UNFCCC), Biodiversity (CBD), Environment (UNEA) and Sustainable Development (UNDESA).
Following her teaching vocation she was associate professor at the University of Zaragoza (Faculty of Law) in 2010-2014, teaching International Law and EU Law.
She joined EIT Climate-KIC in 2020 where she is a Cities Advisor and has worked in ecosystem change via climate innovation with the cities of Amsterdam and Madrid. Since 2021 she leads the EIT Community New European Bauhaus, an activity participated by various EIT Knowledge Innovation Communities (KICs) that aims at accelerating the New European Bauhaus initiative through the acceleration of start-ups, education and ideation activities, and citizen engagement projects.
