
Dr. Marco Berni graduated cum laude with a degree in Architecture from the University of Florence in 1987. He has reconstructed 3D models and has produced Renaissance machine animations for exhibition at the Museum of the History of Science in Florence (Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza).
Additionally, Berni has participated in the production of SIC and STS national standards for cataloguing scientific instruments. Berni has worked on a number of projects on behalf of IMSS for various national and European projects, including: the creation of an integrated archive of IMSS financed by Progetto Finalizzato Beni Culturali of CNR from 1996 to 2000; European projects MESMUSES, I-MASS and ECHO regarding web semantics and ontology from 2000 to 2004, and the European project Worldview Network, regarding historical-scientific popularization from 2002 to 2004.
From 2004 to 2008 Berni worked on the remake of the web application “Scientific Itineraries in Tuscany”. From 2007 to 2009, he participated in the Thematic Network European Digital Library EDLnet as a member of the WG2.2 Semantic and multilingual interoperability. From 2008 to 2012 he worked on some European Project like SMARTMUSEUM, focused on the use of smartphones for cultural heritage, PLACES, focused on the developing of scientific culture, and Europeana v1.0. Afterwards he worked on RENEU, EdMuse, and handled the presence of Museo Galileo on the Google Cultural Institute. Currently he is working on the European projects VAST and Virtual Pathways.
