And now we have a bold strategy to achieve these goals.\u2019\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe strategy identifies priority research and innovation actions in four areas, selected for their potential to fast-track the development and market-introduction of breakthrough technologies.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThese are: redesigning Europe\u0027s buildings to decrease energy demand, strengthening the EU\u2019s renewable energy sector, developing integrated and affordable energy storage solutions, and rolling out electric vehicles.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u2018This is about funding curiosity-driven research, mission-oriented research and demonstration projects in order to encourage and accelerate the transition from the lab to successful goods and services,\u2019 said Commissioner Moedas.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EOver EUR 2 billion will be earmarked in support of these priorities during the last three years of the EU\u0027s current funding programme, Horizon 2020.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe Commissioner also announced that the EU will at least double the budget of the InnovFin Energy Demonstration Projects scheme, which provides loans or guarantees for commercial-scale demo projects in the fields of renewable energy and hydrogen and fuel cells.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003ECutting carbon\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EThe long-awaited\u003Cem\u003E Clean Energy for All Europeans\u003C\/em\u003E package outlines the European Commission\u2019s plan to cut CO2 emissions by at least 40 % by 2030.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EMaro\u0161 \u0160ef\u010dovi\u010d, Vice-President of the European Commission, in charge of the Energy Union, said: \u2018This will bring a fundamental change, moving us away from centralised fossil-fuel-based systems, some of which were built some 100 years ago.\u2019\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003EPart of the new package is a proposal is to implement a binding target for Member States\u2019 to increase their energy efficiency by 30 % compared to 1990 levels.
